Day of the Dead art

I finished my art for the Day of the Dead show the other day, and just got around to taking pix.  You can see them at my Myspace blog here!

Wow, I had loads to blog about... and now, of course, I've forgotten most of my ideas.

I think the glucosamine is working.  I notice that pain that would have been immediate and sharp is now distant-- still pops up, but it's SO much more manageable.  This is SUCH a welcome relief!

I had a little bit more money than I thought (thanks to getting my paycheck), so I ordered a pair of red-and-black striped tights and a black jumper I found on clearance at macys.com (a store I usually avoid like the plague, for its skyrocket prices).  I'm wearing my flat baby dolls, maybe a weird shirt, and my DotD jewelry for the Halloween show.  No, I don't know what I'm supposed to be; just not me, heh.  I think it'll be a fun show.  I'm Food Coordinator, and I plan on making some sugar skulls to decorate the place.

There were six people at the planning meeting.  That is NOT a good turnout when you have twenty artists showing.  Reminds me of when I went to church, and volunteer burnout-- something I totally understand.  Still, when it's a co-op, you gotta pitch in. I paid extra to be a member so I could spend the first year checking things out, making sure it was something I wanted to do without getting in over my head and ending up hating it.  It's weird to see how many people pay the lower price and yet refuse to help out.

My story "Calamari and the Smell of Wet Sweat" just came out in issue #2 of Doorways Magazine.  The accompanying artwork is just astonishingly good in its relevance to the story-- I was so pleased when I saw it, giddily so, and ran around to everyone in the house showing it off.  I'm going to track down the artist and thank them.

We're going to spend next weekend repainting this room, the kitchen/dining room, and the living room.  THAT will truly be a joy when it's done.  And no, the landlord isn't helping out a single bit-- she won't even return our phone calls. I have a word for her, you know.

Off to clean.

It's been an interesting week.

I went to pick up the one piece I didn't sell at the Tomato Art Fest, and the owner asked me if I had anything else to show.  So, I'm going over this week to see if she likes two of my pieces.  This gallery's really popular, so I'm happy that I'll get to show there.  She also told me there's a guy really excited about my work... hopefully he'll buy one of my new things.

I got onto the front page at Etsy- my Evil Schoolchildren magnets were featured in a treasury.  The jumps on that alone were about 500, and I made three sales that day, a new record. :D

I'm done with one piece for the DotD show, and just have to varnish another.  Then I'll work on my sculpture.

...

I was in line at an intersection the other evening, waiting to turn left.  The car in front of me waited a ridiculously long time, then began a slooow turn.  I didn't see the motorcycle heading toward her-- apparently, she didn't either-- and after a loud squeal of braking tires, he crashed into the side of her car and flipped over the trunk, landing on his back on the pavement.  I was about fifteen feet away.  It was horrible.  The street speed limit is 40; he was probably going thirty when he crashed.

I pulled off into the gas station parking lot; by that time, a lot of people were around him, including the guy who'd been behind me.  I talked to him, feeling out if I should stay, but he'd already called it in, as well as a few others, and we figured the cops had enough witnesses-- this guy was staying til the police arrived (it took about three minutes for the fire trucks to get there- the fire station was a city block away).

I just keep seeing him flip like that.  His bike was in half, the front wheel separated from the rest.  I have no idea how that old lady felt.  By the way she was driving, maybe she shouldn't have been on the road in the first place.
